CORRECTION OF HEAVY METAL INTOXICATION WITH BIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES EXTRACTED FROM PLANTS

Abstract
This review article analyzes the pathogenetic basis of intoxication with heavy metals, especially lead and cadmium, and the possibilities of its correction using bioactive substances obtained from plants. The analysis of the literature shows that the leading mechanisms that cause the toxic effects of heavy metals include oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, mitochondrial dysfunction, activation of inflammatory mediators, and apoptosis. In this regard, plant-derived pectins, flavonoids, polyphenols, glycyrrhizin, proanthocyanidins, and other phytocomponents are of particular importance due to their sorption, antioxidant, membrane-stabilizing, and organoprotective properties. The article highlights the work of Uzbek researchers on the example of licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), citrus raw materials, grape seed and grape seed oil, hawthorn fruit pectins, as well as the need to control the heavy metal content and element content of medicinal plant raw materials. In conclusion, it was noted that plant bioactive substances have the greatest practical value not as the main antidote in the treatment of heavy metal intoxication, but as a pathogenetically based adjuvant correction agent.
